The Inca trail is an approximate 43 km leading to the finale of Machu Pichu. The website: http://www.incatrailperu.com/inca_trail_4_day_itinerary.html provides details on the day by day plans. The Great South American Journey: The Lost City Trek

The Lost City Trek is a 4 to 6 day trek (46km) to reach (and back) the lost city of the Taironas. We did the trek in 5 days. The lost city is a city of the Taironas people who went high into the mountains of Sierra Nevada to flee from the Spanish colonists. There they flourished for centuries. The city was discovered around 1973 hence the name. Today we have 4 tribes descended from the Taironas: Wiwa, Kogi, Arhuaco and Kankuamo. The Great South American Journey: Colombia

Colombia is a fantastic country. For too long, it has lived under the shadow of Pablo Escobar and the FARC/ELN. While it was probably unsafe in the past to travel across the country, I felt it was no different to any country when I spent almost a month there. I would recommend experiencing this amazing country without the preconceived notion of Colombian stereotypes. They deserve better than that. My favourite experience was the lost city trek. I shall detail that more in another note. I started my experience in Bogota. The historic town is beautiful and I would recommend doing … Continue reading The Great South American Journey: Colombia

The Great South American Journey: Bolivia

We spent almost three weeks in Bolivia. There are a few places to go to Bolivia: Uyuni Salt Falts are the most famous and a must visit when you are there. Besides Uyuni, I would recommend Sucre: a lovely town close to the dinosaur footprints. We also went to La Paz and Potosi. La Paz is the capital of Bolivia and like any capital it is crowded, busy and buzzing. After being on the road for so long, I was pleasantly surprised by a place called English Pub: and it turned out to be amazing! Pints and excellent fish and … Continue reading The Great South American Journey: Bolivia
